About Matcha
Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and harvested green tea leaves. Unlike traditional green tea, where you steep the leaves and discard them, matcha is whisked into water - meaning you’re consuming the entire leaf and all of its benefits.
How It's Grown
Matcha comes from shade-grown tea plants, typically covered for 20–30 days before harvest. This process increases chlorophyll and amino acid levels, giving matcha its signature vibrant green color and rich umami flavor. After harvest, only the youngest, most tender leaves are selected, steamed, dried, and stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder.
Why Ceremonial-Grade Matters
At Le Matcha, we only source our matcha directly from our partner farm in Uji - the highest quality available carefully selected. First harvest (Ichibancha) leaves are prized for their smooth texture, natural sweetness, and high concentration of nutrients like L-theanine and antioxidants. Ceremonial matcha is meant to be enjoyed on its own, simply whisked with hot water, no milk or sweeteners needed.
Benefits Beyond the Cup
Matcha is rich in EGCG (a powerful antioxidant), L-theanine (which promotes calm focus), and natural caffeine. Unlike coffee, matcha delivers a steady, jitter-free energy that supports mental clarity and mood - making it a daily ritual for both wellness and indulgence.
